As COVID-19 is continuing to play havoc on the lives of millions of people across the globe, the world has been struggling to find either a cure or vaccine for the Novel Coronavirus. As the number of deaths owing to Coronavirus is on the rise, the number of people getting admitted to hospitals and special Corona healthcare facilities is alarmingly increasing. This drastic increase in the number of Corona cases is often attributed to the lack of immunity level in the body, besides other medical factors.
The Ministry of AYUSH in its guidelines has advised public to take one table teaspoon of sesame or coconut oil in the mouth. Further, it should not be swallowed or drunk, but swished in the mouth for 2 to 3 minutes and spitted it off followed by a warm water rinse. The ministry in its website advises to follow this once or twice a day for effective results until any proven treatment or medicine is out in the market.
The Government, in addition to coconut oil, has recommended the use of Tulsi (Basil), Dalchini (Cinnamon), Kalimirch (Black pepper), Shunthi (Dry Ginger) and Munakka (Raisin). Haldi (Turmeric) in different forms; 1 tbsp Chyavanprash; inhalation with fresh Pudina (Mint) leaves or Ajwain (Caraway seeds) and Lavang (Clove) powder mixed with natural sugar/honey.
The government has advised the public to maintain social distancing, stay-at-home, work-from-home and restricted movement even to buy essential items. While the healing effects of coconut oil are well documented and those we have also seen in some of our previous blogs as well, it is not surprising that the Ministry of Health has recommended the daily intake of coconut oil to raise the immunity levels as a vital step to fighting this deadly virus pandemic that has shook the world.
